Reykjavík Roasters

Reykjavik Roasters formerly known as Kaffismiðjan, opened at Kárastigur in 2008 and word quickly spread for their top notch cup of coffee. Kaffismiðjan roast their beans and grind to make you a supreme blend. Their products are imported from Colombia and Nicaragua. The atmosphere is relaxed and decorations are raw with hipster trendy elements. There’s a small backroom where you can listen records vinyl records from their collection. In 2015 Reykjavik Roasters opened at a another location in Brautarholt 2 and are also in the progress of making their own product for market.

Mokka

Visiting Mokka is like going around seventy years back in time. The art deco style interior has not changed much since it’s opening days in 1958. At the time Mokka was the first café to ever serve espresso’s in Reykjavik (until then only brewed coffee had been served). Mokka soon became a local hangout among artists, writers and philosophers and is still to this day remains a popular meeting point amongst the group. It’s a cozy place and good for a quiet read with a book of choice, since there’s no wifi of course.

Stofan

Stofan or (living room) is a homelike café in heart of Reykjavík downtown, located at Vesturgata 3. Beside offering coffee and beverages, Stofan also serves roasted breakfast bagels, grilled panini’s, vegetarian soups and sandwiches, as well as homemade cake and pastry. The atmosphere is laid-back and calm with a hint of new age aura in the air, don't be alarmed if you spot a knitter. Stofan also has a small cellar where you can enjoy selection of Icelandic beers on tap or a glass of wine. Happy hours is daily between 17:00-20:00.

Te og Kaffi

Te og Kaffi (tea and coffee) first opened in 1984. Back then there were few places in Reykjavik where you could get decent cup of coffee, and Te og Kaffi where among pioneers revolutionizing more towards modern café’s such as Starbucks. Te og kaffi now has thirteen locations thereof six downtown, including two on Laugavegur main street. Te og Kaffi is an ideal stop if you’re on the go or for a glance at a couple of magazines at one of their facilities in Eymundsson bookstore on Skólavörðustígur or Lækjargata. Te og Kaffi makes their own product which you can buy in stores and/or local supermarkets. A choice of breakfast and pastry options available. Stylish interior.

Kaffi Laugalækur

Kaffi Laugalækur is situated in Laugardalur nearby the camping area and Reykjavík biggest swimming pool - Laugardalslaug. It recently celebrated it’s one year anniversary and so far the receptions have been welcoming by local residents and coffee perks in the area as well as foreign visitors. It’s a family owned place, casual and homey, with interior, tables and chairs, consisting of something you might find at the neighbouring garage sale. The menu is quite diverse, with - fish, sandwiches, burgers, brunch, vegan dishes and their signature sourdough pizzas. Coffee is fresh, good tea selection and there’s a play corner for the children. Beer and wine is also served and happy hour is every day between 16:00 and 18:30.

Kaffitár

Similar to Te og Kaffi, Kaffitár is a modern café that also roasts and sells it’s own brand, available in stores and local supermarkets. Kaffitár has 8 locations in Reykjavik, including in Kringlan mall, Höfðatorg - Borgartúni and downtown in Bankastræti (next to Laugavegur). Kaffitár also serves tasty bagels, toasts and rolls along with your morning coffee. Easy and comfortable atmosphere.
