Gallery Kling & Bang
Gallery Kling & Bang was founded by ten artists in 2003. Since then Kling & Bang has operated in several interim spaces but recently moved to a new exhibition space in the renovated Marshall House at Grandagarður. Kling & Bang has throughout the years served as a platform for young and upcoming artists as well as more recognized ones to perform their art and communicate about it. “The policy of Kling & Bang gallery is to introduce emerging and established, national and international artists and their works, that challenge the context and content of creative thinking”. Kling & Bang regularly collaborates with other galleries and outside curators for various projects. The show works are ideally relatively diverse and may include; paintings, performances, video works or sculptures.

I8 is a contemporary art gallery that shows and represents selective Icelandic and international contemporary artists. Among them is the rising star Ragnar Kjartansson who has already made a big impact in the world of art. Another familiar name is the Icelandic/Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson who’s late work at I8 gallery include a multimedia installation. Other international artists such as the american artists Roni Horn and Lawrence Weiner have also displayed their work at the gallery. Despite being a young gallery, I8 has earned itself quite a significant international reputation.

Gallery Fold was established in 1990 and works as a commission based art room for over 60 renowned Icelandic artists. It offers four exhibition spaces (around 300 square meters). The exhibition period normally covers two to three weeks. Gallery Fold holds fine art auctions (monthly w/break during summertime) in their showroom at Rauðarásstígur 14 - where the gallery has been situated since 1994. The monthly events are well attended and up to hundred items can be put up for sale during each auction. The catalougue is available at the gallery and following websites; myndlist.is and uppbod.is. The gallery also deals with orders from abroad and frequently packs and sends artwork to customers based overseas. Gallery Fold is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild.

Gallerí List, established in 1987, is the oldest fine art gallerí in Reykjavik offering wide selection of contemporary art from various Icelandic artists. Gallerí list represents somewhere between 60-80 artists with selection ranging from; “large oil paintings to watercolours, drawings, smaller pictures, sculptures and ceramics”. The Gallerí is also conventional gift and souvenir store where you can buy smaller pieces and design. Packaging and international shipping is available upon request.
